Congratulations on your newest blessing!
If you are reading this, I think it's safe to assume that I am bubbling over to possibly have the opportunity to cuddle and love on your precious newborn baby. (But don't worry, I mask up, sanitize and make sure props are clean beforehand). ;)
To prepare you for our session together, I decided to create this page just for you in mind! Here are a few tips to help our session go as smooth as possible.
*Try to feed your baby beforehand. This will hopefully get your baby "milk drunk" and will start us with a smooth start.
*Dress your baby in an outfit that is easily removed and won't startle him/her as much when taken off.
*Please bring a pacifier. Sometimes, babies don't like them or you choose to not give him/her one for different reasons and I understand that completely. Unless it's against medical advice, please bring one just in case. Many times, these help soothe them during positioning. They can be wonderful during our session.
*Sessions can range anywhere from 2-4 hours. This is one session I have no control over. Sometimes babies get hungry, sometimes there's a mess to clean up. It happens, it's all a part of it, just please be prepared, it will take a while. If you have other small children, I suggest we do family photos at the beginning so if they become restless a parent or relative can take them somewhere to keep them from disturbing baby and lengthening our session.
*Packing extra outfits for you and your child is a great idea. You never know what may happen, if you know what I mean. lol Babies poop and pee at no warning to us, so it's best to be safe than sorry, especially if you have somewhere else to go that evening before going home.
* I supply headbands, wraps, props and a few outfits. If you would like to bring something original, let me know, I can give you advice on things that photograph well and goes with my style of portraits. Some ideas that parents have brought in the past have been personalized blankets, a homemade quilt and props from the parents' occupations, such as mining boots, hats, stethoscopes etc.) Crochet outfits tend to be rather large, so please keep that in mind when purchasing these. They don't always look the way we intend for them to.
* It's best to do our session within the first 14 days because of their alertness and flexibility, however, I have learned over time that there are some babies who still do amazing after the 14 day period. We need to try to get as close as we can to that mark, but sometimes it isn't a make or break either.
* As far as outfits for you, try to stick with solid, earth tone colors. Your hands will be shown in family photos, so if your nails are important to you, be sure to make sure you're prepared for that.
* If you are early or running late, please be sure to let me know when I should expect your arrival.
* My studio is a small building beside my house and I do not have a bathroom inside. However, if you promise to look over my "lived in" home, you are welcome to use ours. Keep in mind, we have three kids, ages 10, 11 and 13 who are all in sports all throughout the year and our lives are chaotic. It's rare that my house is spotless. IYKYK haha!
Fine Print: Upon booking, you are agreeing to look over me in leggings, no makeup and my hair completely tied back in a (Miss Trunchbull) bun. ;) I say this jokingly, but not. It's hot. I sweat. I'm up and down in the floor for the hours you're here. So, please look over me! I apologize now! ;)
